We booked this 'hotel' as we had a very early flight from Edinburgh airport.

We had 3 hour drive up and were looking to arrive around 9pm.
We arrived just before this and managed to park outside from a lovely young man who helped us. We walked in to what is a pub with a box with a shutter for reception, kids playing on the stairs and no staff to be seen. We stood around for a few minutes, when a waitress pressed a bell and somebody came. We paid and got our key.
We were on the top floor and whilst going up with cases had to bypass several children who were playing on them.
The room was small with a double bed against a wall (which I hate!) and a bathroom across the landing! Both, of which were not mentioned in the booking or on arrival.
We chucked the bags in the room and went down to see what food was a a available. We had not been asked if we would be eating, so a bit disappointed to be told the kitchens had just closed.
We went to the takeaway across the road which was quite nice.
Sleep was minimal due to it being on a busy road. We didn't have breakfast as we were leaving at 4.30am (No reduction given).
Overall, I've done 11 years in the hotel industry as management and over 35 years travelling around the world. This is a pub with rooms, no customer service and not for us.

Two plates came with a rib eye on each (thin, grizzle, no steak searing), cheap frozen skinny fries, HALf a mushroom (why?) and a small squashed cooked tomato. Partner had veg option with their undercooked steak and was given a small helping of wet, soggy, tasteless (tinned?) tiny cubed 'vegetables'. More water than taste after a small try.
Food was left, the lovely waitress politely offered to return the meat for more cooking. But, the whole dish was cheap ingredients and saturated, so we left.
The steak meals had no resemblance to anything a qualified chef would serve.
The menu options on the website do not exist, be forewarned.

Service as always first class and mainly served by Fraser ... he is an asset to this establishment . Drinks ordered and menus perused and mum had a small portion of fish and chips and peas , dad had the 8oz ribeye cooked medium and to perfection served with onion rings and a few chips and I asked for gravy as he loves gravy and sure as anything the gravy went down well as did the steak. Locally sourced steak and the quality is amazing . Hubby had the sea bream and again beautifully cooked ( any many know fish can be easily overcooked ) The flavours were delicate but married well with the dish. Me ... I had the beef curry served with a naan and rice and chips . Half rice / half chips which is a great concept . Lovely sauce accompanied the beautiful good quality beef. Me I had vanilla ice cream and mum had a mix of ice cream. Sadly she couldn’t finish it as she enjoyed her fish and chips so much that she was full. Yes there are offers and so those on a budget can experience the deals . Steak for obvious reasons on that day were not on the deal menu but I think they still have the steak nights with deals .   Cooked from frozen food and rude waitresses - Went for the set dinner today and none of the food tasted fresh except the cheesecake dessert.. definitely the worst Christmas dinner I've had everything was made from frozen. roast... read more potatoes, veg, stuffing. What made it worse was the service, maybe if the waitresses smiled or even had some manners. Had to ask for food to be taken away from table, we were never asked how the food was or if we needed anything. no glasses were taken away either so tables were just a mess. Will not be back.
